The Association of the National Olympic Committees (ANOC) represents Olympic committees of all sizes. Some have large departments with many members of staff, while others are just a one-man-band. ANOC wanted to level the playing field so each Olympic committee could write an equally engaging proposal or simply represent themselves in the clearest, most accurate way possible. For this, they needed a partner with Olympic levels of writing expertise.
ANOC turned to Craft Words to help because of our experience designing workshops to help teams write better. We helped Apple Retail by developing and running workshops to teach teams in Cupertino, London and Shanghai how to write in the brand TOV. We ran workshops around writing better for social media for 50-Sport, and developed and delivered training workshops for The Digital Impact Alliance (DIAL). In addition, our founder Paul Anglin is an award-winning professor at IE University and runs bestselling online courses for DOMESTIKA.
ANOC were trying to support an audience of professionals for whom writing was not their main job. Nor were many of them native English speakers. Craft’s challenge was to understand what problems these people were facing, and to create a programme to suit the hugely varied level of writing ability, so everyone had the same level of opportunity.
The solution was a bespoke two-hour writing workshop designed to help our varied international audience understand the core ideas behind how to write more clearly, and simply.
We really enjoyed working on this project because it made us think about what we do day-to-day, and how to pass on our writing advice, tips, lessons, and activities in a format that would work for a geographically diverse audience with differing levels of English.
The result was a course that helped ANOC’s diverse team understand some of the fundamentals of writing. The group really engaged with the materials and advice and ended the course feeling they’d grasped the fundamentals of how to present themselves and their ideas in a way that was more persuasive and engaging.
